Special Event: Partial Solar Eclipse
Wednesday, August 12th at Jenny Jump State Forest
UACNJ will be opening the gates for a midday solar eclipse viewing event at Jenny Jump State Forest! While we won't be anywhere near the path
of totality, we will still see about 12% of the Sun covered at peak, and that's a great excuse to get outside and observe safely with us.
We'll have solar telescopes and binoculars set up for safe viewing, a livestream of the event on site, and solar eclipse glasses available for
purchase.
Admission is free and all are welcome. Registration is not required, but parking at Jenny Jump is limited so we encourage you to plan accordingly.

What to Expect
- Solar telescopes and filtered binoculars set up for safe public viewing throughout the event
- A livestream of the eclipse on site for comfortable viewing
- Solar eclipse glasses available for purchase
- Our knowledgeable volunteers on hand to answer questions and guide your viewing
Eye safety is critical. You must use ISO 12312-2 certified solar eclipse glasses or a proper solar filter to view the Sun directly. Regular sunglasses will not protect your eyes. Solar eclipse glasses will be available for purchase on site.

- The path of totality passes over Greenland, Iceland, and northern Spain
- At peak, approximately 12% of the Sun will be covered as seen from Jenny Jump
- Maximum totality duration along the central path is about 2 minutes 18 seconds

A Note on the Perseid Meteor Shower
We will not be hosting a dedicated Perseid meteor shower event this year. However, our regular Saturday evening program on August 15th is a
wonderful opportunity to catch some meteor activity in the nights following the peak. We hope to see you there!
